چکیده

Present methods for genetic evaluation of livestock are largely based on phenotypic information and pedigree registration. Genomics offers the opportunity to dissect phenotypic differences at the molecular level, which provides a better insight into the underlying genetic model. This affects genetic evaluations as well as selection strategies. Opportunities to utilize molecular and phenotypic information in genetic evaluation are described. Molecular genetic information offers the opportunity to better exploit phenotypic information but collecting phenotypic information remains important in order to identify the genetically unique individuals.

Estimation of genetic and phenotypic trends for body weight traits of sheep in Guilan province of Iran

The main objective of the present study was to estimate genetic and phenotypic trends for body weight traits in Guilan province sheep. Traits included were birth weight (BW, n=14,549), 3-month weight (3MW, n=13,109) and 6-month weight (6MW, n=10,141). Data and pedigree information used in this study were collected during 1994 to 2011 by the Agricultural Organization of Guilan province in Iran. ...

Molecular Markers for Fertility in Farm Animals

A genetic marker is a gene or DNA sequence with known localization on a chromosome. It can be de-scribed as a variation that can be measured or detected by a suitable method, and can be used subsequently to detect the presence of a specific genotype. Such variations occurring at chromosomal or DNA level can serve as genetic markers. The progress in development of molecular markers suggests thei...

Genetic and Phenotypic Variation for Flowering Time Genes in Barley (Hordeum vulgare)

Objective: Flowering Time (FT) in cereals controlled by genes that had a main factor on plant development. Methods: Genetic and phenotypic diversity of four flowering time genes (FT2, FT3, FT4, Ppd-H1) in 19 genotypes of cultivated and wild barley was evaluated and a total of 107 alleles were amplified. Genotypes based on days to flowering time and molecular data were grouped into earl...
